Alcalá de Guadaíra acoge refugiados en el hotel Sandra bajo la gestión de la ONG CEAR

Suscraviens arrived at the Sandra hotel in Alcalá de Guadaíra (Seville) at around 1:00 p.m. on Monday. These individuals are refugees from Sub-Saharan countries who have been victims of conflicts, human rights violations, or persecution. The temporary accommodation is being provided by the Spanish Commission for Refugees (CEAR), in collaboration with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration.

The refugees were accompanied by a large police presence, extensive media coverage, and many local residents who came to witness the event.

CEAR has announced that, in coordination with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, they have a limited number of spaces available for asylum seekers during their international protection process. This initiative is aligned with Spain’s obligations under international treaties.

RECOGNITION OF ASYLUM IN SPAIN

In light of the current migration context, CEAR explains that the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, responsible for managing reception spaces in Spain, has urgently opened a humanitarian reception center in Alcalá de Guadaíra. The goal is to defend and promote the right to asylum in Spain and to ensure access to the international protection process with all legal guarantees.

CEAR will be in charge of managing this reception center at the Sandra hotel until December 31, 2024. The refugees will be attended to by a qualified team of reception technicians, lawyers, psychologists, and administrative staff, among others.

ESCAPING CONFLICTS AND PERSECUTIONS

The adult refugees mainly come from Sub-Saharan countries, having been forced to leave their homes due to conflicts, human rights violations, or persecution. Most of them are in the process of obtaining refugee status, according to CEAR.

The City Council of Alcalá de Guadaíra, led by the socialist Ana Isabel Jiménez alongside Andalucía por Sí (AxSí), has sent a letter to the Ministry of Inclusion, requesting a meeting with the Secretary of State for Immigration, Pilar Cancela, to request detailed information about the entire process.

In addition, the municipality of Alcalá de Guadaíra stated that all necessary services will be activated to ensure that this situation does not affect peaceful coexistence in the city. They aim to uphold the solidarity and sense of responsibility that have always defined the people of Alcalá de Guadaíra, as demonstrated in previous receptions of refugees from conflict-affected regions.
